Alicante Golf
Located on the outskirts of Alicante City, just a stone’s throw away from the magnificent 7km San Juan beach, is a stunning modern 18-hole golf course. Designed by the legendary Seve Ballesteros and opened in 1998, this par 72-course measures 6,270 meters and is often referred to as the “big green lung of Playa de San Juan.”
Featuring large fairways and towering trees, the course offers a spacious feel, but golfers should take caution when it comes to out-of-bounds areas and the five huge lakes scattered throughout the course. Precision is key when traversing the many hazards around each hole, making accuracy more important than distance.
One of the most notable holes on the course is the 9th, where Seve has taken creative license with an artificial lake shaped like an S that curves gently around the green. Additionally, golfers on the 14th hole can enjoy the unique challenge of having to clear the ball over original Roman ruins.
Severiano Ballesteros himself once mentioned that the course is attractive and varied, calling for the use of all clubs and requiring specific and varied strategies for each hole. The course is gentle to walk around thanks to its flatness, which also increases visibility. Despite its spaciousness, the course becomes increasingly difficult as players progress, thanks to a number of holes with out-of-bounds and the five demanding lakes that require careful course management.

Severiano Ballesteros designed this fantastic 72-par course that includes six par-three holes, six par-four holes and six par-five holes, meaning that no two consecutive holes are played with the same par in any one round. This format makes play more varied and entertaining and gives golfers many more chances of scoring a birdie. Seve also designed 5 large lakes affecting 12 of the 18 holes, resulting in an attractive and challenging course for golfers of all abilities.

I really like the way it winds it way through different housing developments, but be warned, you need a buggy because the distance between green and the next tee can be a few hundred yards. The par 3 15th is surrounded by apartments and it feels like you are playing in a stadium – you tee shot can get some applause from the residents!”
